Sr Director, Wholesale Finance


Description
The Senior Director, Wholesale is responsible for the management of budgeting, forecasting, and financial/operational reporting in order to optimize growth, profitability and overall business performance. This position will be a key partner to the Wholesale leadership team and business leaders, providing the analysis that aids in the decision-making process and also establishes and monitors the P&L, core metrics and other financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Financial Planning and Reporting:
  • Establish, monitor and direct the financial reporting systems and processes necessary to operate a highly-profitable wholesale business on a day-to-day basis; establish and ensure metrics, reporting and visibility of revenue, margin, SG&A, PTI, budget, KPI metrics, inventory management and other key performance indicators.
  • Lead monthly financial planning of Wholesale operations that links to corporate planning requirements and ensures timely month-end close. Ensure that monthly forecasts are completed on-time and reflect trends with all risks and recommendations communicated to Wholesale senior management team and CFO.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial and general business presentations that reflect strong strategic thinking and good analytical rigor.
Budget/Forecasting:
  • Ensure that the forecasting and budgeting process for Wholesale revenue, margin and SG&A is timely and accurately reflects all risk and challenges; integrate input from business leaders and review assumptions in light of current business conditions and market indicators and highlight forecast trends that suggest potential changes in action.
  • Works in a proactive manner with senior Wholesale management to ensure all budgets and long-range plans link to and incorporate strategic business plan objectives and include the appropriate amount of analysis and detail to explain variances and strategic direction.
  • Provide timely/meaningful information to the Sales team to help them run their business. This includes preparation and dissemination of monthly and quarterly revenue and margin forecasts. Identify action plans to address performance gaps and monitor progress against such plans
  • Provide financial support for brand marketing initiatives, including financial perspective on shop in shop initiatives and tracking expenses versus plan
Business Updates, Account Profitability and Dilution Reviews:
  • Direct the wholesale business reviews, including monthly internal operating reviews with Cole Haan leadership, quarterly reviews with the Nike Affiliates team and annual reviews with Nike leadership.
  • Develop informative Wholesale Account P/L’s and work with the Wholesale and Corporate Planning teams to develop actionable recommendations for improvements.
  • Develop a monthly review process of profitability for accounts, regions, and categories.
  • Develop and run a process for review and approval of all account dilution including: cooperative advertising, markdowns, charge backs, discounts, returns, cancellations, cost of capital for inventory, etc.
  • Serve as a proactive and progressive partner for recommending strategy, efficiencies and enhancements.
Operating Expense Management/Strategy:
  • Review all key Wholesale operating costs including organization costs, compensation plans (base and incentives), tradeshow and sales meetings costs, travel & entertainment, samples management, etc.
  • Direct the preparation and financial highlights of wholesale financial summaries and the creation of appropriate reporting for the business managers to evaluate ongoing wholesale operations and resource utilization.
  • Monitor and manage all costs and articulate variances as they occur. Identify all key business drivers and focus on improving operations and increasing productivity.
  • As part of the annual strategic planning process, partner with the Global Strategy team to advocate and implement strategic initiatives ensuring that all financial impacts are contemplated in the budget process.
  • Work in association with the Distribution Center (Shipping/Receiving) for monthly cut-offs/accelerate or hold shipments, etc. and returns as well as with Customer Service for new accounts and discounting.
  • Supplies unit forecasts which roll into the Corporate Inventory Plan/forecast process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required. MBA from top-tier school and/or CPA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in a combination of roles spanning accounting, financial planning & analysis and business support, with a heavy emphasis on operationally-oriented finance experience.
  • Experience at a vertically-integrated retailer with various channels of distribution (first quality and factory stores, e-commerce and wholesale) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with premium brands and/or a consumer packaged goods company is preferred.
  • Capital planning analysis and/or investment/divestment analysis experience is preferred.
  • Outstanding strategic planning skills.
  • Familiarity with industry and market venues and networks and ability to represent the brand within those venues and networks.
  • Knowledge of financial systems applications (SAP and COGNOS is a plus). Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access and Word). Strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • A history of improving processes and infrastructure and familiarity with data warehouse systems to ensure accurate data capture and reporting.
